Sydor Optics is proud to announce our new 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at our Jet View Drive campus in Rochester, New York is expected to be operational in fall 2027.
Representing an investment of more than $32 million, the expansion is an important step in Sydor’s continued growth to provide customers with greater capacity, expanded capabilities, and a more comprehensive precision optics manufacturing resource.

For more than 60 years, Sydor Optics has grown by listening to our customers and investing in the people, technology, and manufacturing capacity required to support their evolving needs.
Today, demand for increasingly sophisticated optical components continues to grow across aerospace, defense, semiconductor, biomedical, energy, telecommunications, entertainment, and other advanced technology markets. These industries require optics manufacturers that can deliver exceptional precision while also providing the scalability, consistency, and responsiveness needed to support demanding production programs.
Our new facility is being designed with those requirements in mind.
The additional space will allow us to expand production capacity, accommodate large-scale manufacturing equipment, improve manufacturing flow, and support continued investment in advanced optical fabrication and metrology technologies. It will also provide room for future growth as customer programs become larger and optical requirements become more complex.
This expansion is about more than adding square footage. It is about building an advanced manufacturing environment that will help our team work more efficiently, collaborate more closely, and continue delivering the quality and reliability our customers expect from Sydor.
Bringing Complementary Optics Capabilities Together
The new building also supports an important new chapter for Sydor Optics following our acquisition of Vertex Optics in January 2026.
Sydor has built its reputation as a leader in precision flat optics, with capabilities ranging from low-volume, custom-engineered components to high-volume production. Our expertise includes double-sided grinding and polishing, continuous pad polishing, CNC machining, laser machining, and the production of wafers, windows, filters, mirrors, optical flats, and other precision plano components.
Vertex Optics brings complementary expertise in prototype-to-production curved optics, including spherical, aspheric, cylindrical, and freeform components. Its advanced capabilities include five-axis CNC machining, Magnetorheological Finishing technology, lightweighting, large-format interferometry, and the fabrication of optical glasses, crystals, and technical ceramics.
By bringing these complementary strengths together, Sydor and Vertex can provide customers with access to a broader range of precision optics capabilities — from custom and high-volume flat optics production to complex curved components and advanced finishing.
The new facility will create an environment where our teams, technologies, and manufacturing resources can work together even more effectively. For customers, that means greater scalability, streamlined collaboration, and a single manufacturing partner capable of supporting more of an optical program from early prototypes through production volumes.
Growing Advanced Manufacturing Careers
The expansion is also an investment in people.
As part of the project, Sydor plans to create over 30 new jobs over the next five years while retaining existing positions. These opportunities will contribute to the continued growth of Rochester’s highly skilled advanced manufacturing workforce.
