January 12, 2026 – Sydor Optics, a global leader in custom precision flat optics, has acquired Vertex Optics, a premier manufacturer of high-precision curved optics. This strategic acquisition expands advanced optics manufacturing capabilities and accelerates growth and innovation across both organizations. Together, the companies serve a wide range of markets, including aerospace, defense, semiconductor, medical, energy, and automotive.

Founded in 1964 and headquartered in Rochester, New York, one of the world’s premier optics hubs, Sydor Optics specializes in low-volume custom engineered optical components to high-volume production of plano optics such as wafers, windows, filters, mirrors, and optical flats. Sydor also houses the largest collection of double-sided polishing machines in North America.

Vertex Optics, also based in the Rochester area, excels in prototype-to-production precision optics including aspheres, freeforms, spherical, and cylinder lenses and ceramic components made from optical glasses, crystals, and technical ceramics.

The partnership will leverage shared resources, including advanced technologies like Magnetorheological Finishing (MRF) polishing, multiple 5 axis CNC machines for lightweighting, and 24” interferometry with stitching capability up to 1 meter. This enables significantly higher levels of precision for challenging applications.

For customers, this means enhanced solutions without disruption: existing relationships, processes, and points of contact at both Sydor Optics and Vertex Optics will remain unchanged. Customers will continue to benefit from the same dedicated service while gaining expanded options, including broader capabilities in high-end custom optics, improved scalability for complex projects, and accelerated innovation to solve previously unattainable challenges.

“This is the opportunity we’ve been looking for to be able to get in the world of custom curved optics,” said Sydor Optics President Jonathan Sydor. “Partnering with Vertex allows us to offer a more comprehensive portfolio, delivering greater value and precision to our customers in critical industries. They’re talented, and our corporate cultures are aligned to become more successful together.”

Sydor Optics President Matthew Sydor added, “We’re incredibly excited for the opportunity to be working with Vertex. Their reputation for manufacturing high precision spherical optics is known throughout the optics industry and will compliment Sydor’s portfolio of optics very well. And, with the new delivery of MRF technology, both Sydor and Vertex will push the boundaries of what can be done.”

“Joining up with Sydor provides the resources and industry expertise to accelerate our growth and tackle larger, more complex customer needs while maintaining the quality and agility that define Vertex.” Said Jayson Tierson, President of Vertex Optics.

“Sydor Optics and Vertex Optics provide very different yet complimentary services to the optics industry.” Said Joe Serio, Vice President, Vertex Optics. “I’m truly excited to see how our combined talent, innovation, and strong desire to be the best in the business will come together. This partnership is a force to be reckoned with.”

Both companies will continue to operate under their respective brands. Located just minutes apart in Rochester, their close proximity enables seamless collaboration and strong cultural alignment, supporting continued growth ahead of their planned move into a new 100,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility in fall 2027.
